Spring-Summer 2017 Classics AAU Basketball Club
Team Tryouts Information and Schedule Grades 2 through 12

For girls and boys in 1st grade, please email us at info@classicsbasketball.com regarding alternate player development and team programs for your child.

Please NOTE the following important considerations before considering AAU Club Basketball!!!

1. Classics AAU Basketball offers at least 2 formal tryouts sessions during our tryouts period to accomodate conflicts with family, religious, and school events so that players considering Classics  AAU can make at least one tryout session. Players are encouraged to attend both of the sesssions. If a player is totally not able to attend either of the scheduled sessions then please contact us at info@classicsbasketball.com
to arrange analternate time for your daughter/son's evaluation by our coaches.

2. Some age/grade group teams may have very few team positions open for new players. If your athlete does not make a particular Classics AAU Club team but still wants to try and develop their basketball skills to a more advanced level, please contact us to provide you with other options for their development including referals to trainers and/or other AAU Club organizations/teams that may be looking for players for their teams.

3. This is NOT a recreational program but is for the young athlete that wants to commit to at least two to three practices per week and play at a higher competitive level and develop their basketball and athletic skills by working hard both in and out of practice times. Commitment is also required for weekend leagues and tournaments and many teams do travel out of the DC metro area on overnight for events throughout the year. Travel expenses are not typically included in teams's basic operating budgets.

4. If you think you might be interested in getting involved with our all volunteer, non-profit organization as a coach or team administrator, please call or email Coach Andy (301-706-6902, president@classicsbasketball.com).

WHAT AAU AGE/GRADE GROUP AM I IN?
BOYS: Boys teams are by AGE as of 8-31-17.  For example, player born on 7-15-04 would be 13 as of 8-31-17 and thus 13U which is typical for a player who is in the 7th grade as of Fall 2015.  There is no grade component to the AAU Boys Age DIvision Rules but there are some additional criteria for players 15U and older (High School ages).

GIRLS: Girls teams are generally GRADE based with the players grade as of 10/1/2016 with an AGE limit based on age as of  8-31-17.

NOTE: The specific AAU eligibility criteria shown at the links below have NOT been updated for the 2016-17 program year and are provided as examples only:   BOYS: Click Here

Parents, Players, Never Heard of Classics AAU Basketball?

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer organization, dedicated to promoting the development, growth, and appreciation of sports in the growth of our area's youth. We have been around since 1981 - one of the first girls AAU basketball organizations in the DC area. We have remained small, and focus on developing high quality players and teams. We do not form teams just to give everyone who shows up at tryouts a team to play on. We have at most 2 to 3 teams in each age group. Not all tryouts athletes may make a team and returning players may not make and continue on a team if they don't bring their A+ game to tryouts!!  Please visit the Club Information page to read about past accomplishments of our teams at various Nationals and Regional events.

We are an all volunteer, non-profit organization with committed and dedicated coaches, parents, and players. Teams are individually coached and managed. The club supports team, player and coach development, and tryouts with minimal annual dues of $50/player/season ($100/year). Team costs for uniforms, gym time, AAU Memberships, tournaments, leagues, coaches expenses and supplies are additional and typically can  range from $400-800/player for the Fall-Winter season and $600-$1200/player for the Spring-Summer season including Potomac Valley AAU District and AAU National Championship events. Actual costs will depend on the team's plan and competition tempo. Teams are encouraged to use our eScrip.com fundraising program, solicit tax deductible donations as Classics is a 501(c)3 entity, and hold other fundraising events to support the team. Also, we appreciate the support of many sponsors - see our
Sponsors Page for more details!
